Gamemonger, the home of news about gaming and all things related to gaming. Endeavouring to bring you almost-objective news in a near-timely fashion. Will predominately be about PC-related games, but if anyone has a suggestion for a good console article, just let me know!
My previous post regarding GTA made me think far too much regarding what the world considers to be THE best video game of all time. So I'm going to throw the doors open to the Orble community and ask that very same question to you, thy faithful readership, to find out once and for all...

WHAT IS THE BEST VIDEO GAME EVER MADE?

To begin with, we shall create a top 50 (or thereabouts) from all your nominations. A maximum of three games per reader can be nominated, and if someone has already mentioned one of your titles, you're welcome to mention it again, but just remember that the game in question need only be nominated once to be included in the ballot.

Once all nominations are taken, the vote begins (within a new post, of course) and a winner discovered. You can only vote for one game, but you're more than welcome to explain why you wish to vote for it. Makes for good readin', that, eh?

Nominations will take place over the next three days, until this saturday evening (Australian EST), so get thinking, be thoughtful, and let your voice be heard. Keep in mind, this isn't just a little post i'm throwing together to increase readership (honest), I'm greatly interested to hear the views of the Orble community on the industry I love so dearly, so don't be afraid to just jump in, post once, and never read my column again. It won't hurt me, really. Besides ... I'm Iron Man! ... in my head, at least.

Welcome back Interplay

May 7th 2008 03:18
It's always nice to see an old face in the crowd smiling back. Well, not that a company can 'smile', so to speak, but you get my meaning. Interplay, formerly well known for Earthworm Jim, Descent and MDK (that's Murder Death Kill for those of you playing at home, and I won't take any other answer!), are making a long awaited comeback.

Apparantly, it was the sale of the Fallout brand to Bethesda (of Oblivion fame) that helped spur the return, and the good news is they will be focusing on many of their former greats, including the ones I mentioned above, plus the possibility of a Fallout MMO.

I for one am happy to see the team return, in some form or another. It marks another 90's favourite of mine (the other being Acclaim) who are back in business, and I do hope all works out well. Hell, just imagine Descent on Wii!

Alright, alright, so it's been a while between posts, but can you blame me? Between the normal every day life that I lead (working full time and all, just so you know), but then you get arguably one of the best video games ever released, plus trying to clean out other games in the collection to ensure every minute is spent on said best video game ever before said game is released ... yeah, that failed. I mean come on, realistic setting on Rainbow Six 2 is damn hard!

Anyway, so GTA, best game ever? Close, but honestly I can't put my hand on my heart and agree to that. It's a great game, easily one of the most entertaining titles in recent times, but Mario 64 and Ocarina of Time still hold a very special place in my gaming memory, and it's hard to replace either of them.

Besides, where's the tanks?! How can you have GTA without tanks! Unless ... I haven't found them yet.

Jumping on the HD Bandwagon

March 2nd 2008 01:34
HD DVD ... It's not dead yet!

Well okay, maybe it is. But thanks to Toshiba pulling out of the HD race, I've finally jumped on board, and why not! At prices this cheap, it's worth trying. Granted my 26 inch HD TV was mainly for the Xbox 360 than movies, but the $50 spent on the HD-DVD player add-on was very much worth the purchase

Microsoft Apologises to its Community

January 19th 2008 11:00
You know, for all the problems there may be in the gaming world, what with breaking consoles, dodgy games and bugs, it's always nice to see someone raise their hand and say 'yeah, that's our fault, sorry about that. Hey, have something on us.'

It's Microsoft's turn this week, and it's an Xbox Live arcade game on offer for free after the Christmas/New Years errors that slowed Live to a crawl in most areas of the world. And they haven't just thrown out a dodgy title no one wants either, since Undertow (the game in question) isn't a pushover. In fact, it's safe to say it's one of the best action titles on the system, period. It's a fair trade, especially since everyone will have a chance to download it ... well, as long as they don't already own the game. That's the only sticking point, but you can't please everyone

Vader and Yoda in Soul Calibur IV

January 15th 2008 07:34
You should all know this by now, especially if you're either a Star Wars geek like I am, or a Soul Calibur freak ... kinda like I am. Darth Vader and Yoda, those loveable old Masters of the Force, have been confirmed as playable characters for Namco Bandai's Soul Calibur IV.

The catch is simple enough, Vader only appears on the PS3 edition and Yoda on the Xbox 360 edition. But the rule could be broken thanks to downloadable content later on in the games lifespan, and the rumour is there may be more characters making an appearance later on. My guess is another Sith/Jedi character and perhaps Chewie. But please, don't take my word for it. The last thing I want to do is start a false rumour ... or do I ...

Duke Nukem 3D on 360?

January 15th 2008 07:23
Remember Duke Nukem? How could you forget, of course. Besides, it was just before Christmas when the long delayed Duke Nukem Forever came back from the dead. Not surprisingly, then, the original 1st person shooter Duke Nukem 3D is rumoured to be heading to Xbox Live, boasting co-op and multiplayer modes. I say 'not surprisingly' since, well let's be honest, if Doom can do it then Duke certainly can. It makes sense, and what better way to ramp up the hype again. No release dates or confirmations have been made, but an inevitable announcement should find its way out real soon.

Is it me, or am i saying 'surprisingly' a lot lately? Anyway, as for Duke Nukem Forever ... yes, same as usual, no info yet, but rest assured I won't be the first person to tell you if and when we all know the result, trust me on that.

The Year Ahead

January 13th 2008 08:01
Is it me, or is the year ahead not going to be as good as the year gone by? Smash Brothers Brawl will lead the charge, but a majority of the big name titles of 2008 so far doesn't seem to hold as big an interest as those of 07.

Having said that, there's plenty to still talk about. Besides Brawl, the other most anticipated title that (cross the fingers) won't be too much long to wait for is Spore, Will Wrights next big thing. Ever since watching Robin Williams play Spore nearly two years ago, this has been on my must play list

A new Xbox? Skype on PSP? A new DS? None of it is fact, so let's just say 'what if?' and take at look at the last rumours ...

What if #1: BIll Gates announces a new Xbox 360 edition at CES 2008.

Under the laws of gaming journalism, it's important that everyone releases a list of what they believe to be the best titles of the year. To ensure I don't get fined, here's the Gamemonger Best of '07 ... or as I like to call it, the 'My Xbox gamer score sucks' awards.
