Smash Brothers Delayed Once More
January 16th 2008 08:03
Don't panic, this isn't turning into another Nukem, it's just a minor set back for what will be a powerhouse of a Wii title. Smash Brothers has been pushed back to March '08 in the US from its original February launch.
There's a catch within all this, however. There's still no confirmation of when we'll see the title down under. Unfortunately, this could mean a massive delay, something similar to the likes of Super Paper Mario or Metroid Prime 3 which were released many weeks to a few months after the US launch.
It's one of those things that the PAL territory has always had a problem with. Every once in a while we get a title before anyone else, most of the time we get titles only a few days to a week behind the rest of the world. But in Nintendo's case, there's always been a handful of titles that have had long and unusual delays.
The DS seems to bare most of the brunt. Trauma Center, Phoenix Wright, a number of Final Fantasy titles. Many 'reasons' have been given, localisation, ratings, that sort of thing. In all reality, if Microsoft Xbox titles are released so closely to the US release and, in some cases, before the US release, then surely Nintendo can do the same thing. Unless, of course, there's another tactic involved.
I'm not angry at the Big N, especially since I've supported them for many a year. But one can't get too relaxed when Australia (and in some cases the UK) are still left behind on many an occasion.
Meanwhile, here's really, really hoping Smash Brothers releases sooner rather than later. It's getting harder to wait!
