Evony

October 14th 2009 18:24
I have been playing this relatively new web based game now for a few months called Evony. It can be found at Evony.com. This game is fun for those that enjoy the strategic games that allow you to build an army and use that army to conquer both NPC's and other players.

The nice thing about this game is the way it is set up. When you first join you are under beginner's protection for 7 days. This is to give you the opportunity to learn the game and build your city so that you are not completely defenseless once out of protection. Now while the whole game is pvp, you do have alliances and your alliance can set up friendly diplomatic relations with other alliances to provide a strong united front.

The game itself is free to play with the option to buy what's called evony cents. These cents can be used in game to purchase essentially power ups. The power up provide reduced building time or research time or troop training time. There are also power ups to provide production buffs for your resources or even to get you more money in taxes from your city citizens.

My plan here is to give a strategy for starting that I have found that works for me. In your beginning city you want to focus on all the first quests it gives you. These quests walk you through getting started and how to do certain things. Once those are done you want to get your walls to level 2 and your town hall to level 4. Do not go higher than level 4 on the Town Hall before your 7 day protection expires or you will lose it.

You want to have 10 cottages and 10 barracks in the town. This will allow for the best diversity of population and troop training. You also want to be sure to have an academy to research your technologies. As for resource fields, I recommend 8 farms 8 sawmills and the rest split evenly between iron and stone. Each upgrade of the town hall gets you 3 resource fields so keep that in mind. Following these steps will get you started.

As for your army i would focus initially on building warriors and workers. A good base is to have 3000 warriors and 2500 workers. Then once you have learned informatics from the academy and one of your barracks is level 2 train up 500 scouts. This will give you a decent sized small army for attacking and conquering the level 1-3 valleys located around your city. These valleys generally give bonuses to resource production.

This gets you started and generally can all be done within the first 3 days of protection. After that just keep upgrading buildings and researches and expanding your army. From this point on it's basically your preference on how you progress. I strongly recommend joining an alliance as they can provide valuable insight on the game and also provide help.

Thanks for the time and I'll post more on the game in the coming days.

Abscence

March 22nd 2009 17:21
Sorry about the lack of posts...RL happened and caused me to be absent from the computer for a while. However I'm back and ready.

Patch 3.1 is on the horizon. I can't wait for the dual specs for my druid. I plan on moonkin/feral. My mage will be frost/fire (depending on the changes to mages anyway).

I will post more later this was just a catch up post.

Crysis Warhead Released

September 14th 2008 15:29
"Don't shoot! Let 'em burn!

The latest game out of the Crytek sweatshops has just been released, and IGN were fast on its heels with their review by Jason Ocampo.

Attracting an "Outstanding" rating of 9.4, Crysis' story runs parallel to the original game, but takes place on the other side of the island, and from the perspective of Michael "Psycho" Sykes, the crazed British lunatic from the first game.

In his review, Ocampo draws attention to the increase in cinematic quality, thicker and more frequent action, and of course the increased visual quality which we have come to expect from Crysis' developers. Ocampo notes also that this increase in graphics comes with a performance increase when compared to its predecessor, so hats off to the guys at Crytek for pulling that one off.

Check out the review here.

Taking a break from Spore, I realised that there are two things:

Spore Review - Cell Stage

September 4th 2008 09:19
Hey all. Decided I needed to jump onto the Spore review bandwagon and post an account of my own experiences with the game.

The game officially launched here in Australia today, to the cheers of many a gamer and non-gamer eager to get their hands on their own little piece of hype. IGN Australia gave a score of 9.2/10, which I think is excellent considering how original, broad and therefore risky Spore is as a game. It was never made a secret by Will Wright or EA that Spore is being aimed squarely at the same market which made The Sims into the commercial success that it is: casual gamers, which IGN and 99% of other game sites do not represent. While hopeful, I never expected the mainstream game sites to give Spore a perfect score

My previous post regarding GTA made me think far too much regarding what the world considers to be THE best video game of all time. So I'm going to throw the doors open to the Orble community and ask that very same question to you, thy faithful readership, to find out once and for all...

The Year Ahead

January 13th 2008 08:01
Is it me, or is the year ahead not going to be as good as the year gone by? Smash Brothers Brawl will lead the charge, but a majority of the big name titles of 2008 so far doesn't seem to hold as big an interest as those of 07.

Having said that, there's plenty to still talk about. Besides Brawl, the other most anticipated title that (cross the fingers) won't be too much long to wait for is Spore, Will Wrights next big thing. Ever since watching Robin Williams play Spore nearly two years ago, this has been on my must play list

Duke Nukem's Back ... No, Really!

December 20th 2007 06:45
Ladies and Gentlemen, Hell hath frozen over. For today, after years of silence, Duke Nukem has returned ... you can stop laughing now, besides it's December not April.

3D Realms has released a brand new trailer for the game that everyone has forgotten (or at least tried to) after the many many years of delays, proving once and for all that someone out there still cares for the one time king of rudeness
