Evony

October 14th 2009 18:24
I have been playing this relatively new web based game now for a few months called Evony. It can be found at Evony.com. This game is fun for those that enjoy the strategic games that allow you to build an army and use that army to conquer both NPC's and other players.

The nice thing about this game is the way it is set up. When you first join you are under beginner's protection for 7 days. This is to give you the opportunity to learn the game and build your city so that you are not completely defenseless once out of protection. Now while the whole game is pvp, you do have alliances and your alliance can set up friendly diplomatic relations with other alliances to provide a strong united front.

The game itself is free to play with the option to buy what's called evony cents. These cents can be used in game to purchase essentially power ups. The power up provide reduced building time or research time or troop training time. There are also power ups to provide production buffs for your resources or even to get you more money in taxes from your city citizens.

My plan here is to give a strategy for starting that I have found that works for me. In your beginning city you want to focus on all the first quests it gives you. These quests walk you through getting started and how to do certain things. Once those are done you want to get your walls to level 2 and your town hall to level 4. Do not go higher than level 4 on the Town Hall before your 7 day protection expires or you will lose it.

You want to have 10 cottages and 10 barracks in the town. This will allow for the best diversity of population and troop training. You also want to be sure to have an academy to research your technologies. As for resource fields, I recommend 8 farms 8 sawmills and the rest split evenly between iron and stone. Each upgrade of the town hall gets you 3 resource fields so keep that in mind. Following these steps will get you started.

As for your army i would focus initially on building warriors and workers. A good base is to have 3000 warriors and 2500 workers. Then once you have learned informatics from the academy and one of your barracks is level 2 train up 500 scouts. This will give you a decent sized small army for attacking and conquering the level 1-3 valleys located around your city. These valleys generally give bonuses to resource production.

This gets you started and generally can all be done within the first 3 days of protection. After that just keep upgrading buildings and researches and expanding your army. From this point on it's basically your preference on how you progress. I strongly recommend joining an alliance as they can provide valuable insight on the game and also provide help.

Thanks for the time and I'll post more on the game in the coming days.

Abscence

March 22nd 2009 17:21
Sorry about the lack of posts...RL happened and caused me to be absent from the computer for a while. However I'm back and ready.

Patch 3.1 is on the horizon. I can't wait for the dual specs for my druid. I plan on moonkin/feral. My mage will be frost/fire (depending on the changes to mages anyway).

I will post more later this was just a catch up post.

Level 80

January 4th 2009 14:21
Finally! I have reached level 80 on my main. I have no real reason to have to quest anymore short of money and levelin' alts.

Don't think I'll do that for a while, meaning the levelin' alts thing. I want to focus on making some gold back (never got all my gold back from being hacked) and on raiding.

Speaking of raiding. I got to see Naxx not 24 hours after I hit 80. Man that instance is fun. It's been a while since I've enjoyed any instance. I have to give my props to Blizzard. They did well this time making questing and instances interesting for a change. Add in the achievement system and it's a whole new game really. Now i found myself in groups that are trying to do the special things to get the achievement that goes with the dungeon.

I've been really focusing on heroics and raiding and for that my tradeskill (leatherworking) has suffered. I'm at 427. My cooking is at um (god i hate stating this one) 59 and my fishing (man i hate fishing) is at 147. I'm gonna get my cooking up to northrend hopefully here in the next week or so. Fishing, well that one may take a little longer just because it is so boring.

I'll give more insight on the level 80 heroics and raids another time.

Holidays

December 29th 2008 17:57
Sorry about the abscence from the blog. The holidays kind of took over my ability and time to do anything.

But on the positive side, the account that the hacker got banned I was able to get back. Blizzard investigated it and decided that it had been compromised and lifted the ban. Whoot

Achievements

December 23rd 2008 19:42
Well I've talked all about the leveling and the security of WoW. So now I should move on to another topic. Let's talk about the achievements in the game.

All these achievements are new with the patch right before expansion. You get achievement points for instances, exploration, quests, tradeskills, and even looting gold. What's with this

Security

December 21st 2008 15:13
Man all these security issues with accounts for WoW. They now have a posting on their website saying to be careful and giving security tips. The problem is if the account is hacked and used to break the terms and conditions, it can be banned and they (blizzard) doesn't care at that point if it was hacked or not, it still violated the terms and conditions and is the fault of the account owner.

It's a rough break, but I understand why they have to do that. If not, then anyone banned would be emailing saying "hey i was hacked" when in reality they may not have been. But I also know Blizz has to have a way of tracing that stuff for the most part ot figure out for sure if the account owner was truly the one on the account at the time the supposed offense happens. It's a catch-22 for Blizz in a way. On one hand you want the infraction stopped, on the other you want to keep the subscriber but the amount of time and resources spent can sometimes if not all the time cost more to the company than keeping that subscriber

Refer a friend in WoW

December 18th 2008 21:22
Let me start by saying no one likes leveling anymore. But if you have the refer a friend bonus omg it's fast. You get a friend to do the refer a friend link to you (NOTE: this requires a new account on your part). You set up your account and create a new toon. Then your buddy on his account and you on yours level together. As long as you are grouped and within 4 levels of each other you get triple experience per kill and per quest turn in up until you are lvl 60.

Just to give you an example of how nice this is. At lvl 35 when you do the triage quest for first aid, you get 16k experience for completing it. If you are grouped with refer a friend bonus you get 48k. It's nice to level fast when you've done it before slowly

Again I try with WoW

December 17th 2008 16:20
Well here we go again. I went out yesterday and purchased new cd keys for WoW. I'm going to level yet again on a new account. This time I am not installing any addons at all. I have new antivirus and spyware and keylogger protection on my computer. I should be secure.

I have to admit though, I'm kind of dreading this. I haven't enjoyed leveling the last 5 times I've leveled to 70. I never made it to 80 (thanks hacker). So now I start over at level 1 and work my way to 80. I have the advantage this time of at least knowing the quests but that doesn't necessarily make it any easier to swallow

Banned account

December 16th 2008 15:57
Yet again I was hacked. This time it resulted in 3 accounts account and 1 of them being banned permanently. I do believe this is the end of my time in World of Warcraft. I don't like the fact that a hacker can break into my account and then I get banned for anything he/she may do on that account. Especially after paying for wow and expansions and character xfers every month for the last 4 years. It's heartbreaking and wallet breaking.

I've done everything I can to protect my accounts. I even ordered the little Blizzard Authenticators. What good do they do? How about none
